Recipe to create and self-destroy a country
Time needed: 60 years but can be done sooner Ingredients:  A mis-interpreted dream, preferably involving religious utopia People from all parts of the continent loosely united by religion A few feudal lords (add according to taste) 1 Dozen hard liner Generals Continuously fed hatred of 1 neighbour (if needed, also of a jewish state) An excuse of a constitution that can be amended as...

For WorldCup
Nothing makes us merrier, as a society, than winning a cricket match. I am almost sure our Gross National Happiness was at its peak in 1992 and 2009 and at its lowest whenever our team is touring Australia. Some of us have repeatedly requested that our team builds some kind of match plan and preconceived strategies that would help us be consistent and hopefully win more of the times. Lot of...

Naqoosh-e-Iqbal
Naqoosh-e-Iqbal, an excellent book to help one follow Iqbal, has this verse on its cover page: Naqsh Hain Sab Na-Tamaam, Khoon-e-Jigar K Bager  Naghma Hey Sauda-e-Khaam, Khoon-e-Jigar K Bager I was thinking about how to put in English and came up with: All Impressions In Vain, Sans a Bleeding Heart  All Sonnets Mundane, Sans a Bleeding Heart

This is our final decision! Oh, unless we reverse...
Mohammad Yousuf’s coming back doesn’t really surprise anybody. It saddens me a bit though, to imagine, that like other aspects of life in Pakistan nowadays, tolerane is fleeing cricket as well. One rough series and the board is over-turning its oh-so-firm decision of banning Yousuf? Nobody can deny the expertise and maturity Yousuf brings to the field, but giving him a spot naturally...

Avadh Punch
A little riddle posted by Sepoy led me to research about Punch, the popular British magazine of 19th century and ultimately to the Indian version of it called ‘Avadh Punch”. Published from 1877 through 1936, Avadh Punch featured literary giants like Abdul Haleem Sharar, Pundit Rathan Nath Sarshar (of Fasana-e-Azaad fame), and some other awesome contributors who never got the much...

Know Your People: Katchi
Even before we entered the gate of Kemari, a guy in rugged jeans and vintage polo -with his lips still red from the Paan he had savoured earlier- rushed to us asking if we wanted to go to Manora. He was disappointed when we told him we didn’t want to go to Manora and just wanted to stand by the boats for a few minutes. It was early morning and quite obvious that he had yet to make the first...

Why do we seek glory?
A good post on Beentherella mentioned that what people really want is to be validated. Can’t really disagree with that. Taking it one step forward, people want to be validated or proven right as much as they want others to be proven wrong. A student would rather see the whole class give the wrong answer than some random kid getting it right. It is a natural tendency alright but is this...

Rann
Just watched the movie “Rann” featuring Amitabh and Ritiesh Deshmukh. I am sure the movie wouldn’t do good at the box office because it has a pinch of reality in it. The movie shows the true picture of today’s media and its behind the covers collaboration with political parties. I think it is more true of Pakistan than of India, the channels we have only sell...

Sushi and "Ijaar"
Tried Sushi for the first time today. They had tuna, eel, avacados and some other good stuff. I had around 6 pieces and was liking it but the 7th piece made me go urghhh. It was a good experience though. Would have been really nice with some beer. May be Corona. Thought more about Ijaar. My initial focus was pretty good but I drifted from it just to get more organic traffic. I think in the...

Disconnect
Had been thinking about it for a while and finally did it. Disconnected my data plan and converted my CrackBerry into a BlackBerry again! So no more checking-email-every-2-minutes! Now I only check my email while I am on my computer and the next goal is to bring it down to around 3 times a day. Having the Gmail open all the time is distracting and unproductive as well. Will try to avoid that...
